I love numbers.
That’s sort of strange given the fact that I really wasn’t all that good at math when I was in school.
Yet, I really do look to the numbers when it comes to making decisions. And that has never been more true than when it came to selling our home. My wife and I raised our family inside the central air conditioning comfort of that home. It was also the first place we ever bought. And when we bought it, the house came with new residential HVAC. Believe it or not, that old HVAC equipment made it 27 years. For sure, getting HVAC maintenance twice a year made a big difference when it came to that level of longevity. The first number that started our conversation about selling the house were the big numbers other homes were selling for. The kids were out of the house and it really didn’t make much sense for us to keep such a big place that was really meant for a family. But when the realtor came out for our initial meeting, I was seeing more and more numbers flying at me. There were so many things that she wanted us to renovate. I was almost not so sure she wasn’t trying to get more of a commission. I shared this feeling with my wife and she had a very logical response. My wife simply asked to see the numbers. So the realtor stopped by again with the data showing what were the big drivers when it came to home value. New residential HVAC and the latest in HVAC technology was first on the list. That made the decision to replace the HVAC unit all the more easy to agree with.
