I did not mind driving out to the country to help the residential customer

My residential and commercial heating and A/C repair business relies on our customers to continue operating year after year… My buddy and I do not advertise heavily, because my friend and I rely on our customers to spread our name.

My buddy and I take care of every single person like they are family and my friend and I guarantee that you will be satisfied when my friend and I are done with the repair or upgrade.

Normally I maintain the entire county and some of the surrounding areas. I recently had a client that called from outside of my normal zone and I decided to drive out to the country to help the residential client, and she sounded like she needed some help! The person was calling for help with the boiler and it was a particularly frigid day. I was the only person in the office when she called and I decided to take the call myself. It was outside of our normal zone and I did not want any of my employees to complain about the long drive, however even though they drive a supplier automobile and I spend my money for all of the gas, it can still take a lot of time out of the day to handle a repair that is outside of our own normal zone. I arrived at the address about an hour after the client called. She was glad to see me come into the driveway and was waiting outside on the porch. She showed me where the boiler was located and I decided to perform a full maintenance tune up. Since the person did not know what the complication was, I thought this was a wonderful locale to start.

Selling the house comes with new residential HVAC

I love numbers.

That’s sort of strange given the fact that I really wasn’t all that good at math when I was in school.

Yet, I really do look to the numbers when it comes to making decisions. And that has never been more true than when it came to selling our home. My wife and I raised our family inside the central air conditioning comfort of that home. It was also the first place we ever bought. And when we bought it, the house came with new residential HVAC. Believe it or not, that old HVAC equipment made it 27 years. For sure, getting HVAC maintenance twice a year made a big difference when it came to that level of longevity. The first number that started our conversation about selling the house were the big numbers other homes were selling for. The kids were out of the house and it really didn’t make much sense for us to keep such a big place that was really meant for a family. But when the realtor came out for our initial meeting, I was seeing more and more numbers flying at me. There were so many things that she wanted us to renovate. I was almost not so sure she wasn’t trying to get more of a commission. I shared this feeling with my wife and she had a very logical response. My wife simply asked to see the numbers. So the realtor stopped by again with the data showing what were the big drivers when it came to home value. New residential HVAC and the latest in HVAC technology was first on the list. That made the decision to replace the HVAC unit all the more easy to agree with.

Don’t gamble on air conditioning comfort

So my friend just made the worst bet ever.

Like any homeowner who takes care of their HVAC equipment, my buddy had the air conditioning tune up done this past March.

That’s when I do it to. But we belong to the HVAC service plan provided by our HVAC company. This is an HVAC service that this HVAC company has offered since we first bought this house almost 15 years ago. Along with some other renovations, we had to replace the heating and cooling equipment once we moved in. The house was such a deal that we snapped it up knowing that we would have to take care of stuff like the residential HVAC. After investing all that money in new HVAC equipment, we wanted to be sure that we got the most protection for our investment. Of course, consistent HVAC maintenance is the best protection and we wanted to be sure that we were consistent. I’m not great with remembering stuff like HVAC maintenance appointments so that makes the HVAC service plan all the better. The HVAC company does the scheduling and all I have to do is respond to the email. My buddy has been sort of hit and miss with his HVAC maintenance. So when the HVAC technician finished the HVAC maintenance, he told my buddy that he might want to replace the heat pump. The HVAC professional didn’t think that it would make it through the Summer. Well, my buddy thought it would and wanted to wait. I just got a text from him telling me that the heat pump died. Plus, he’s going to have to wait weeks before the HVAC company can replace the residential HVAC. Indeed, that was a terrible bet. I sure wouldn’t want to be facing the rest of July with no air conditioning.

Enjoying crisp, cooling air from the heat pump

It’s pretty amazing when I have to go outside midday during the Summer.

  • It’s blazing hot this time of year as the heat and humidity are at their highest levels of the year.

Just going out to the car to grab something results in sweating. So when I walk back inside the central air conditioning of the house, it’s such a difference. Of course, that has everything to do with the fact that the heat pump provides the cooling comfort we need to deal with such temperatures. Still, it’s astonishing to walk back inside the house from outside. Today, the temperature outside was 93 when I went outside to grab something. The thermostat in our home is set to 80 degrees. That seems like a high setting right? Well, we do our best to acclimate to the rising temperatures during the Spring. That means we don’t need as much air conditioning all Summer. The 80 degree thermostat setting is pretty much normal for midday in our home. Still, it’s just night and day going from 93 degrees and loads of humidity to inside the central air conditioning of our home. It’s just remarkable how inviting and comfortable that 80 degrees is when you walk in from outside. What hits you first is the fact that the temperature is nearly 15 degrees cooler. But it’s the crispness of the air that really makes the cooling comfort. The air conditioning process actually is balancing the humidity levels as it’s cooling the house. That means mold and mildew are mitigated while the air feels so delightful compared to the humidity outside.

Zone controlled HVAC is a winner

The air conditioning tune up was great for two reasons this year.

Of course, the first reason the air conditioning tune up was great is that HVAC maintenance maximizes the efficiency of the heat pump.

And I’m all about getting the most out of the heat pump for the Summer. This is the time of year that we all dread the most when you call this region home. The Winter is awesome and we hardly even need any heating. Actually, we’ve gone to just breaking out a space heater most times when it’s a bit chilly on a Winter morning. The heat pump stays pretty quiet that time of year so I’m not spending a bunch of money on heating. That’s great but that doesn’t mean that I just let the HVAC go crazy all Summer either. So getting the most from our heat pump is always a great thing. But the other great thing about this Spring’s HVAC maintenance appointment was what I learned from the HVAC technician. I had been under the impression that if you wanted zone controlled HVAC, you pretty much had to replace the residential HVAC equipment. That’s not the case at all as I was to learn. Our heat pump is not quite 10 years old. But we have really been wanting the zone controlled HVAC. It seems that every member of our family has a different air conditioning need during the Summer. When the HVAC professional told me that they can retro fit our existing HVAC unit for zone controlled HVAC, I was all about it. And now, we are enjoying the zone controlled HVAC this Summer. Actually, this new deal also helps me customize the air conditioning so I’m not over cooling places in the house that aren’t used all that much.

When a heat pump installation adds to the list of unwelcome changes

A pair of wooden garden chairs and an iron bench sat near a small garden below.

  • It was mid-March, and the trees were still bare, but spring should begin to arrive any day now.

Would the garden come back to life, or would something new need to be planted there? Straws of golden light from an Appalachian sunset stretched above the trees into a peach and purple sky. She drank in its beauty. However, Mary had one burning concern; the boiler had barely survived the winter and the news the heating technician had given her during the heater maintenance was not encouraging. Her heating and cooling system was not what it used to be but repair here and there had seemed to do the trick and she had gotten by pretty well. She had no reason to doubt the HVAC specialist since it was the same home service company she had contacted for over eight years. All the HVAC servicemen knew her by name. Part of her had always felt like the electric HVAC was invincible. It was the only thing that had not changed in the past two years. Even though her quaint cottage had just been renovated, it looked new. Mary had maintained the heating equipment despite the heating contractor telling her otherwise. It was now time to purchase the electric heating system they had insisted she buys back then. Mary didn’t like the idea of one more piece of her old life being taken away. A new heat pump installation was the final draw. Still, she had to look at the HVAC products for sale. Her old electric heat pump may have been a tad bit noisy than your regular heater but she didn’t care. She regularly replaced the HEPA filter and implemented the energy-saving tips and that was enough. It also utilized old heating technology which had been okay until now, when it decided to break down on her.
