My kid Jim has regularly enjoyed working with his hands.

So, when Jim was in high university, he had a chance to take a beginning woodworking class.

Woodworking is not a correct subject that you see in universities this week. In fact, this was around when I was in university in the 90s and had no idea it was still being offered. Jim’s university did him a huge favor by carrying it as part of their curriculum and ever since he took the class, Jimhas been building everything that you can believe of. Jim has built models of cars, monuments, houses, buildings, and so much more. And lately, Jim began working on custom built furniture. So far, Jim has built a custom chair, a custom Sprite table, and he is thinking about even building a custom leather sofa. I cherish that he is so passionate about creating custom built furniture, but my only problem is, I don’t know if this will lead to a lucrative job for him. Currently, Jim is working inside a shed that is in our yard and as he gets the order for custom built furniture, Jim starts building them. He has done ok, but nothing of substance has really manifested for Jim. But I am hoping that it will because he is so passionate about it. And this toil is not as straightforward as people think, and some of his clients have made crazy requests, and Jim regularly manages to build exactly what they want. The best part about this is, Jim has gifted me a few of his pieces. And I am regularly proud to tell my friends and neighbors that I have custom built furniture from Jim. I am convinced that one afternoon, his name will be known by people across the nation.

Southwest style

My parents live in an undoubtedly snobby village in the southern part of the country.

And most of the mansions in that part of the state have a formal home office that is just for show.

Some of my parents’ neighbors have hired interior designers to help redecorate such spaces. These elegant rooms are normally off limits to kids and only used to entertain guests. In fact, few people even use their formal home offices at all. I don’t believe my parents ever use theirs either, I have never really sat inside that space for too long. It’s not comfortable as the posh furniture as well as the accent pieces resemble something from a high end fashion magazine. It’s wonderful that my parents have such lovely furniture in their home because it does make the room look sophisticated, but something such as this would not toil for my house. For one, I have kids and there is no way I would be able to keep them out of that room. Secondly, I like my home to feel like a household and when people come to visit, I cherish them to be as comfortable as possible in all the rooms in my house. A lovely room doesn’t scream comfort, it’s a room where you have to be careful not to damage, scratch or spill something to harm any of the furniture. Of course, this is just my opinion and that classic elegance look can toil for many people with a curious lifestyle. Perhaps one afternoon I too will change my perspective about having such lovely furniture inside my home. Possibly when the kids are grown and have left here for good.

Transitional masterpiece

I am utterly obsessed with my cherry wood furniture even though it’s not the number one preferred furniture for this modern era.

In fact, many of my friends with modern homes believe that my cherry wood furniture is a little bit dated.

My friend Ginny even told me my furniture reminds her of the furniture at her Grandma’s house. While this might be a popular opinion, I still want the classic look and style of cherry wood furniture. Plus, the wood finish comes in so many odd colors so there are lots of variety to choose from. Moreover, I believe that the vintage cherry wood furniture can be paired with other pieces to create a modern or sleek, contemporary look. Personally, I like taking risks when it comes to decorating my home, and it drives me crazy seeing every home with the same style of furniture. It lacks creativity and it tells me that all the people went to the same furniture stores in the village that Ginny and I live in. I like unique accents, and I like antique wooden pieces as well. And if I could find something that is both an antique as well as unique , I have hit the big jackpot. This is why I cherish going to estate sales because I can really find some wonderful wooden pieces there. And yep, much of the furniture at an estate sale is old, but regularly they are in wonderful condition. It beats buying the cookie cutter furniture from the local furniture store in my town. Anyway, although Ginny may not like my taste in furnishings, I won’t change my mind about liking cherry wood furniture. Because unlike Ginny, I don’t believe it’s dated at all.

Now all we had to do was get mom and dad on the plane without telling them where we were going

I wanted to have an anniversary party for my parent’s fiftieth anniversary. Mom was talking about having a picnic, but I wasn’t sure that was enough for them. I was looking for special event solutions, and it surprised me at the different things I found online. They have special event solutions online and all I had to do was pick the right company for the anniversary party. Most of the special event solutions companies that I found, worked with non-profit organizations, big companies, and the government. They all recommended a party planner for what I wanted. I wanted to plan a special event my parents would never forget. Mom always wanted to go to Hawaii, so my siblings and their spouses all offered to pitch. We wanted to plan a destination vow renewal for the entire family. Although there were only fifty people that would go to Hawaii, most special event solutions companies wouldn’t help us. I finally found one that would make all the reservations and pick the right hotel for our anniversary celebration. They had the party, vow renewal, all the permits necessary for the use of the beach, the decorations, food and drinks necessary for a week of fun. When they gave us the estimate and itinerary, which included family air fare with direct route and return trip, we split it up between the family. Now all we had to do was get mom and dad on the plane without telling them where we were going. By the time we had all the plans made, none of us could keep our mouth shut long enough to keep it a secret from mom and dad. We all threw hints and hoped they would figure it out.

A couple of Summers ago, my air conditioner broke down and it was due to a burned out capacitor.

• I suspected that the capacitor burned out due to the excessive heat from the sun.

That year, we had so many days of record temperature, in fact, we broke an all-time record that year when the temperature rose into the triple digits for 3 days straight. I asked my HVAC technician what caused the capacitor to burn out and he mentioned that it is one of the components inside the condenser that typically malfunctions due to overuse. And in fact, my A/C was running more than normal that year. Although the tech didn’t mention this, I believe the sun had a lot to do with the capacitor failing. That same Summer, it got so hot that the shingles on my roof began to curl and lift. Also, there was a section of the roof where the shingles were sunken in. It was clear to me that the excessive sun had caused the roofing damage and when I discovered the damage, I contacted my insurance company to file a roofing claim. But I was shocked to discover that roofing damages from the sun is not covered under my insurance policy. In fact, the company only covers roofing damages that are caused from peril like storms, fires, and more. This meant that I needed to contact a roofing contractor on my own and pay for the roofing damages out-of-pocket. Although I wasn’t happy that I had to pay for the roofing repairs myself, I was glad that there wasn’t any major damage to my roof.

Two evenings ago, I had a startling plus funny experience with my cooling equipment, i live alone in a two-story house.

I found an already well-functioning climate control system when I moved in last year… Before moving in, however, I had the local maintenance provider conduct quality A/C service, however the cooling specialist gave the electric heat pump a clean bill of health even though the replacement had occurred seven years ago.

Two evenings ago, I had just gotten to bed plus gradually fell asleep after a hectic day. I had a dream that I was being chased by someone that was making a loud hissing noise, however when I woke up covered in sweat, I realized the noise did not stop because it came from my Heating as well as Air Conditioning replacement.
