Why do I do this to myself? From an early age my dad always taught me to keep up with all maintenance needs but time and time again I fail to follow through with that lesson.

• This past week has been no different.

I should have had an HVAC technician come out and do their routine heating and cooling maintenance but I got busy. That’s slightly a lie, I could’ve made time to have an HVAC tech to come out and look at my HVAC system but I never liked to be stuck to a scheduled appointment. It’s awful, I know. That’s probably why I haven’t seen a doctor or dentist in like 5 or so years. I can’t do it. Sometimes I want to see a movie. When I show up at the theater there is a difference between watching a movie in 30 minutes for the one movie I want to see or one that I’m not quite interested in but I’ll watch it because I don’t want to wait. Yeah, that sounds awful, my anxiety tells me to just get in and try to enjoy the film that is on screen. When I finish that film, if the one I wanted to see is about to start then I’ll watch it. Regardless, now I’m dealing with an HVAC system that isn’t working. I don’t really want to spend the money on someone to fix whatever is going on but now I have no choice, especially because winter is coming. I’m just going to have to suck it up and schedule an appointment.

Today was a good day.

Work was busy which I like, the main reason the day goes by faster.

Even though it’s the middle of the week just to get through Wednesday fast is great. The only drawback I have is that at the age of 24, I still live with my parents. The other drawback of living with my parents at my age is that they control all aspects of my life living in their house. They still have a curfew for me and they still expect me to not live a life of fun with my friends, going out and stumbling back home. They expect me to be the same little boy I was at the age of 8. I know this is a tough pill for them to swallow but I’m getting older but I won’t argue with them at all. I won’t argue with them because I live under their roof and they can say one day, “get out.” I don’t want to ever hear that because I’m living rent free currently until I can figure out what I’m doing in life. Other than that they control the thermostat and the house in the middle of winter feels like an ice box. Today, I said it’s enough and went out and bought a portable space heater. After buying it from the store my car wouldn’t start to head back home. It just sat there, maybe a dead battery, maybe something else and AAA said they won’t be there for an hour or 2. I didn’t want to wait so I grabbed my portable space heater and jumped on the subway train. I got a lot of weird looks on the train but when I got home, plugged that bad boy I felt so much comfort. I completely forgot about my car until the next morning.

I have a little boy who is turning 3 very soon.

This little man loves to get in all sorts of trouble.

I have a hard time keeping track of him all the time. I’ve been a single father ever since his mother passed but this life we have is hard. My work schedule is all over the place because I have to adjust to his needs. It’s not like how it was a few years back when I only had to use sick time or vacation time for my needs only. Well, I did have my wife as well but like I said she has been gone ever since she gave birth to our little boy but I will never fail him. Nathan is his name and breaking things is his game. I know he is young and doesn’t understand so I always have to manage certain things that can drive someone mad. The other day he threw a little temper tantrum and tossed his stuffed bear across the room and the tip of the stuffed bear’s nose hit our 65 inch tv screen and cracked it. Internally, yeah I was angry but I couldn’t show him that anger. When I cook his food from now on it’s always too hot so one day I placed it in front of the air conditioner to help cool it down. It definitely worked but now he wants every meal placed in front of it. One day the air conditioning broke and he wouldn’t eat his food. I had to call the HVAC company and they sent out a cooling repairman to fix the issue. Thankfully it was minor but as I said, I’d do anything for this little boy.

My little sister is scared of a lot of things. I don’t know why but she always puts herself in situations to be freaked out in. Like she hates certain rides like the ferris wheel but she continues to go on it but cries when someone shakes it just a tad bit. She is scared to be left home alone and if she is home alone all the lights have to be on. I remember a time one of the light bulbs blew out and she immediately called the police thinking someone was messing with her. She will never go on a hike even with someone because she is afraid of a bear or wolf coming out of nowhere. Although those types of animals are not native to our area. Then recently she watched a zombie movie and she didn’t sleep for days. The house itself was getting cold because she remembered one thing from the survivors is that moving to cold regions is a better chance of survival. So the central air conditioning has been set to the lowest setting for about a week now. Well, I should say there were about 5 hours when the air conditioning didn’t work and mom had to call the HVAC company to send out an HVAC repairman to fix the unit. Those few hours were just the worst. If anyone heard her you’d think she was attacked by a zombie. She said to us that we should be thankful that she is keeping this family alive. I feel so bad for whoever ends up with her later in life.

Getting a job can be tough, well, at least you used to be.

I have been jumping from job to job over the last few years still trying to figure out what I want to do.

You’d think that a 30 year old would have something put together by now nope, I’m failing at that. So the last few jobs I have been applying for wanted me to do a drug test. It’s really no issue, I’ve done 3 in the last 6 months and I have passed each of them with flying colors. I don’t personally care who smokes weed or anything but that was never my thing. Today, I woke up like every other day and had an appointment at 9 am. I’m glad I scheduled an appointment because I know some people wait long stretches of time to get in by just sitting in the waiting room. I know that I have a scheduled appointment but usually have to wait about 10 minutes when I get there regardless. I also know when I am waiting the air conditioning is amazing. Where I live it’s always hot and I don’t have air conditioning in my apartment so in a way, I look forward to waiting for my drug test. As I parked my car I saw an HVAC van and I can only assume they had to bring in an HVAC technician to look at their cooling system. I kind of felt upset for a moment there but as I got to the door I saw the cooling technician smiling with the manager and shaking her hand. Nervous still, I walked in and felt that comfort of the air conditioning and all nervousness vanished. Hopefully, this is the last time I do a drug test.

I will write one more of these things and then move on to bigger and better stuff.

One thing I need to do is get some food in my stomach so that I can focus, as there is nothing worse than having a growling stomach while you try to get some work done.

I ate about an hour and a half ago, but it seems like I didn’t eat enough as I am feeling quite hungry right now. I may make my famous grilled cheese sandwich for a quick lunch and then go to the local business with my roommate to get some paperwork done for her. After that is done I will come home and work for a little bit more on my HVAC system before I do my exercise routine and then head out to meet some HVAC tech friends on the beach. Today is pretty windy and cool and it is also the last day of March, so I want to get some sun on the beach before it gets too crowded. If the beach is too windy then we will go to the HVAC company and hang out there while we watch the other heating workers do their thing in the showroom. It is going to be a busy weekend and they are trying to get everything ready for when the doors open on Saturday morning. The heating company expects to sell a lot of equipment this weekend because they have a lot of sales on the old heating systems that they are trying to unload from the shelves.
