A/C off the grid

When I first started to live out here, it was so weird than it is now.

Even with all the planning and strategic execution of the plan, it was strenuous at first.

Living off the grid is not something that was done very often back when I chose to do it. But these mornings, I even have residential Heating, Ventilation & A/C in my house way out here in the deep woods. It was so funny when the Heating, Ventilation & A/C tech had to follow me all the way out here. I had paid a bit extra for them to make the trip. Still, that Heating, Ventilation & A/C tech was pretty blown away by how far out in the woods I actually live. The Heating, Ventilation & A/C tech was able to install the ductless heat pump that afternoon and was back in the world by eveningfall. After that I was the proud owner of a ductless heat pump. It’s just me and my wife Max out here so it’s not like we need a ton of space. So just one ductless heat pump was all that was absolutely needed. When it comes to heating, the wood stove provides all of that and then a little more. But as Max and I are getting older, we sure wanted some air conditioning for the Summer months. It can become thick and sizzling here to the point that fans just weren’t chopping it. With the advanced solar array Max installed along with the advancements in Heating, Ventilation & A/C technology made residential Heating, Ventilation & A/C an opening for us. Max even used the heating from the ductless heating pump a few times this past Winter, however normally, there is a fire going for heating all Winter. But when we need to travel or go somewhere overnight, it’s nice to have the ductless heating pump while I get the fire lit again.

A few new additions to the AC plan

When we first moved out here, I was so thrilled that Dave and I had pretty much negligible heating costs. And that sort of spilled over to how Dave and I approached using the air conditioning during the intense Summer heat. For sure, the Summer heat and humidity are just a complete monster and overbearing at first. So I thought since I wasn’t paying absolutely much for heating costs that we’d just lean into all the cooling we wanted in the Summer. That’s one way of looking at it but it soon became obvious that this was a dumb way of cooling the house. After letting the air conditioning just run wild for the first two years, I decided to start prepping the home in order to save on cooling costs. From there, it has become sort of an unusual little hobby for me to try to keep saving just a bit more each year when it comes to the air conditioning costs. This year is a little different. Of course, I regularly start with Heating, Ventilation & A/C service on the heater. And then stopping direct sunlight heating and sealing up the home absolutely tight are the next few steps. But after that, I’ve added something each year to save a bit more. The greatest saver so far was actually adding a smart control unit. That Heating, Ventilation & A/C technology was a big saver at nearly sixteen percent over the year prior. Yet, I still like to add a bit to the air conditioning plan. So this year, I will try to cook outside on the grill all Summer instead of heating up the kitchen with the stove or the oven. It’s either that or try hanging up the wash instead of using the dryer.

Better heating and cooling being installed at work

So the next two weeks, we are all laboring remotely from our houses as the office gets new commercial Heating, Ventilation & A/C.

This has been long awaited by the whole crew of us who have suffered in the worst heating and cooling.

I’ve been in this office now a dozen years and the office commercial Heating, Ventilation & A/C has never been good. In the Winter, I have to bring in my own space heater. I put that space heating system right underneath my desk and often have to wear my winter coat at times. That’s just insane to me, however how could an important corporation such as this not maintain just basic heating and cooling? I often wondered if it was just our office or what. Well, I got the answer when I was sent to the southern offices to fill in for a month. That place not only had the most wonderful commercial Heating, Ventilation & A/C but there was zone controlled Heating, Ventilation & A/C in the offices. I was astonished at just how nice that place was and the heating and cooling was absolutely perfect. When I came back, I absolutely gave an earful to the corporate bosses when they asked for my feedback on my time down south. And I didn’t let up either. I encouraged all of my colleagues to press corporate for new commercial Heating, Ventilation & A/C as well. It just wasn’t cool that we were somehow the step child office that wasn’t getting satisfactory heating and cooling. Well, I suppose that our pushing for new commercial Heating, Ventilation & A/C finally did something. The corporate boss told us that it will take the Heating, Ventilation & A/C professionals two long weekends to replace the derelict commercial Heating, Ventilation & A/C. And we too are getting zone controlled Heating, Ventilation & A/C as well. I understand that there are going to be 8 Heating, Ventilation & A/C zones across the office. It’s long overdue but man, I’m so thrilled it’s happening.

Getting my dad settled in with new Heating, Ventilation & A/C

I am absolutely stoked that my dad Ed is now down here with us.

It took a whole lot of lobbying on my part, as well as my sibling chiming in for us to get Ed to move, then dad grew up and spent his entire adult life way up north.

This is the land of gas heating systems and not for the faint of heart when it comes to cold winter season weather. My Mom died four years ago after a brief illness. I know Ed wanted to stay in the family house as an affixion to her. But it was getting to the point where he wasn’t able to get out of the home when the snows came. And it was just too much home for him to keep up. My sibling absolutely thought Ed should move south where I live and I agreed. So I asked the boss if I could work remotely for a couple of months to get up north and help Ed sell the house. We replaced the residential Heating, Ventilation & A/C device and did some other updates to the house. I was totally blown away by the final number. I’m so blissful we were able to capitalize on this real estate bubble. So we helped Ed move down and he initially stayed inside the central air conditioning of our house with us. This was a nice way to transition for him as he just loves being around his grandchildren. It took us about 6 or 8 weeks to find the right spot for him. It’s a nice little loft that sits right on a golf course. This is heaven for Ed as just watching golfers is a wonderful time for him even if he’s not playing. We were also lucky that this home came with the latest in Heating, Ventilation & A/C technology and a new heat pump.

Excellent A/C gets my daughter out of hoodie

I am stoked that we are getting ready to get into Summer.

Of course, that’s not the general consensus around here as Summer is not 1 of the favorite seasons. But I’ve lived here all of my life so I’m pretty durable when it comes to handling the heat and humidity. For sure, having superb residential Heating, Ventilation & A/C sure helps out a whole lot. I’m lucky to have such a superb heat pump which provides the cooling comfort we need from June through September. These are actually the most brutal weeks that we have to face. But at least from June through the end of June, I get to see my daughter Max a whole lot more. I work from my house inside the central air conditioning of my house. I was already laboring remotely prior to the pandemic so I’ve got this laboring from the house thing wired. My wife and I have one child named Max and she is just awesome. But Max has the most sensitive internal control unit of any human I know. It may have to do with the fact that Max is small and has just zero fat on her. When the air conditioning is on during the Summer, Max can be found wandering around the home in a hoodie. But this year, it will be different. I had the Heating, Ventilation & A/C business come in and tweak the Heating, Ventilation & A/C device so now I have zone controlled Heating, Ventilation & A/C. There are now a total of 6 control units and six separate Heating, Ventilation & A/C zones in our home. This allows Max to customize the control unit setting in her room so at least she’s not sleeping in that hoodie.

Leave it to the experts of A/C

When the Heating, Ventilation & A/C specialist said that our heat pump was on its last lap, I went straight into savings mode.

  • This is what I do these mornings in order to get around all the high costs that I seem to get whacked with from service companies.

I do not like the fact that I have overpaid for many services over the years. It starts out as one price that seems satisfactory. Then, you get the bill at the end and there are all these additional charges that weren’t part of the original discussion. So when the Heating, Ventilation & A/C pro told me it was time to replace the Heating, Ventilation & A/C system, I got to work. I figured that I’d just get myself online and start figuring out what the next residential Heating, Ventilation & A/C might be. I mean, how strenuous could it be? It took less than half an hour for me to realize that I was totally and completely out of my depth when it came to finding a Heating, Ventilation & A/C device to replace the seasoned heat pump. My wife Jen gave me some slack but I know she already had the Heating, Ventilation & A/C business on speed dial. I finally relented to meeting with the Heating, Ventilation & A/C business and I’m sure blissful that I did. Not only was he a true expert when it came to all things heating and cooling, the guy absolutely listened to Jen and I as well. We had some particular heating and cooling needs that Jen and I absolutely wanted to address with this Heating, Ventilation & A/C update. I’m feeling blissful that I just let the Heating, Ventilation & A/C experts take care of the whole thing. It was a joy to lay back and let the people who know heating and cooling take care of all the small details. And the price was just as we had agreed to during our initial meeting. Wow, what a refreshing experience.
