It’s pretty amazing when I have to go outside midday during the Summer.

• It’s blazing hot this time of year as the heat and humidity are at their highest levels of the year.

Just going out to the car to grab something results in sweating. So when I walk back inside the central air conditioning of the house, it’s such a difference. Of course, that has everything to do with the fact that the heat pump provides the cooling comfort we need to deal with such temperatures. Still, it’s astonishing to walk back inside the house from outside. Today, the temperature outside was 93 when I went outside to grab something. The thermostat in our home is set to 80 degrees. That seems like a high setting right? Well, we do our best to acclimate to the rising temperatures during the Spring. That means we don’t need as much air conditioning all Summer. The 80 degree thermostat setting is pretty much normal for midday in our home. Still, it’s just night and day going from 93 degrees and loads of humidity to inside the central air conditioning of our home. It’s just remarkable how inviting and comfortable that 80 degrees is when you walk in from outside. What hits you first is the fact that the temperature is nearly 15 degrees cooler. But it’s the crispness of the air that really makes the cooling comfort. The air conditioning process actually is balancing the humidity levels as it’s cooling the house. That means mold and mildew are mitigated while the air feels so delightful compared to the humidity outside.

It was built in the style of a Mediterranean villa but with a heavy Moorish influence that indicated it had been constructed in the twenties.

The interior was dark and opulent. He could imagine one of the old silent-screen vamps at home with the narrow stained-glass windows, arched doorways, and wrought-iron grillwork. It would include boiler repair and duct sealing. During his career working on heating equipment in different places, Jason had seen a lot of homes, but this one was in its league. Lucius was not in, but the housekeeper led him to the heat pump installation. The electric heat pump looked fairly new. The ductwork, however, was a little older and needed some work. Jason worked on the heating device and also fine-tuned the wireless thermostat. Lucius had done an excellent job when it came to maintaining the electric heating system. Everything went smoothly with the electric HVAC, and he was on his way to another house where the caller said she needed an HVAC specialist for heater maintenance and a new HEPA filter. He automatically offered energy-saving tips out of habit and gave free advice on the different HVAC products for sale. Life as an HVAC serviceman had never been better. The workflow was great, and he had received a salary increase; maybe it was time he proposed to Layla. Still, what was the hurry? He was a young man, and contrary to what people said, at thirty-five he still had time to dally.

• It was mid-March, and the trees were still bare, but spring should begin to arrive any day now.

Would the garden come back to life, or would something new need to be planted there? Straws of golden light from an Appalachian sunset stretched above the trees into a peach and purple sky. She drank in its beauty. However, Mary had one burning concern; the boiler had barely survived the winter and the news the heating technician had given her during the heater maintenance was not encouraging. Her heating and cooling system was not what it used to be but repair here and there had seemed to do the trick and she had gotten by pretty well. She had no reason to doubt the HVAC specialist since it was the same home service company she had contacted for over eight years. All the HVAC servicemen knew her by name. Part of her had always felt like the electric HVAC was invincible. It was the only thing that had not changed in the past two years. Even though her quaint cottage had just been renovated, it looked new. Mary had maintained the heating equipment despite the heating contractor telling her otherwise. As I enjoyed my dinner, I had a humming sound that turned into hissing. It scared me so much that I thought that there was something in my home. I went to the attic from where the sound originated and established it was the electric HVAC. Turning it off and on from the wireless thermostat would work, but it was not even showing the readings. I checked the energy-saving tips the HVAC supplier had shared with me, and so far, I had followed all the suggestions. I hoped the boiler was not going to malfunction tonight. I contacted the heating business frustrated that the sound from the heat pump installation was messing up my evening. It kept getting louder, and it was irritating me. The HVAC serviceman who answered the phone was very polite and patient with me. He listened to my complaints and asked follow-up questions, including whether I had recently changed the HEPA filter. He explained that the sound could be the air trying to escape from the clogged filters, causing a strain on the heating equipment’s function. He promised to send over a heating technician who would change the filters and run heater maintenance on the electric heating system the following day. He also asked if I had a space heater that I could use for the night if the noise from the electric heat pump was too much. By the time I got off the call with the HVAC specialist, I had calmed down, and it’s funny how my ears had gotten used to the sound. It was a good thing that I did not need to start looking at the HVAC products for sale.

My sister thought it was wasteful, but I had considered the long-term cost savings when it came to costly boiler repairs. The HVAC specialist showed me how to remove the filters and replace them. I almost chickened out, but I was determined to learn. I had to schedule dates for when it would be the best time to have the electric HVAC serviced and when I’d have the experts come in for troubleshooting so that I could see all the worrisome signs. I’ve done it for half a year, and my sister is now jealous that she can’t do the same with her electric heating system, and I have to remind her we can’t have it all. My air conditioning bills are lower, and I can save a little more.

But it’s the crispness of the air that certainly makes the cooling comfort. The air conditioner process legitimately is balancing the humidity levels as it’s cooling the house. That means mold plus mildew are mitigated while the air feels so delightful compared to the humidity outside.
